Former Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been arrested in connection with the violent Gen Z protests that took place in 2025. According to officials, the protests had turned deadly last year, resulting in the loss of at least 70 lives and widespread unrest across the country. Along with Oli, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak was also taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation into the handling of the situation.
The arrest comes a day after Balendra Shah was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Nepal, marking a major political shift in the country. Authorities are examining the decisions taken during the protests, especially those linked to security operations and crowd control measures that allegedly contributed to the casualties. The investigation is currently underway, and further details are expected.
