

During the Sankranti festival, cockfighting events are being held on a large scale across the Konaseema region as well as the combined districts of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, and Nellore. Along with the festive atmosphere, the excitement of betting enthusiasts has turned the surroundings into a celebratory spectacle. These cockfights have resulted in the exchange of crores of rupees.
While Sankranti celebrations are taking place across the globe, the festivities in the Telugu states especially in the Konaseema region stand out as a major attraction. Cockfighting has traditionally been a defining feature of Sankranti in Konaseema, and the same enthusiasm has continued this year as well. Reports suggest that transactions amounting to nearly ₹20 crore took place within just two days.
Betting participants carefully select their birds based on timing, horoscopes, and auspicious moments before entering them into the arena. From choosing the roosters to managing the contests, every aspect is handled with great precision.
In the West Godavari district, particularly in the Tadepalligudem area, cockfighting events witnessed intense competition. On Thursday, a significant amount of money changed hands. One individual created a sensation by winning as much as ₹15.3 crore in a single contest.
A high-stakes match between the roosters owned by Rajahmundry Ramesh and Gudivada Prabhakar drew widespread attention. Ramesh’s rooster emerged as the clear winner, defeating Prabhakar’s bird decisively. As a result, Ramesh secured the massive winning amount. Locals say this was the biggest bet recorded in West Godavari district this year.
Overall, cockfighting events during the Sankranti festival continue to thrive across Konaseema and neighboring districts, adding further excitement and intensity to the festive celebrations.
