In a major escalation of tensions, Israel, with support from the United States, launched coordinated strikes on key Iranian military installations, dealing a significant blow to Iran’s leadership. Among those reportedly killed were Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and General Gholam Reza Soleimani, commander of the Basij paramilitary force under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Israeli Defence Minister Katz officially confirmed the operation, stating that the attacks targeted strategic locations housing top military officials.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the objective of the operation is to weaken Iran’s regime and ensure a future of freedom for its people. He confirmed the elimination of Larijani and Soleimani, describing them as close aides of Iran’s leadership. While Israel has claimed responsibility for the strikes, Iran has not yet officially confirmed the deaths, even as reports indicate multiple casualties following missile and drone attacks on high-security zones.
