An Indian-origin woman working as a teacher assistant in North Carolina has been arrested for allegedly cutting her husband with a knife after a dispute over household chores. The woman, Chandraprabha Singh (44), reportedly injured her husband’s neck on October 12 at their apartment in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte.
Singh, who works with grades K-3 at Endhaven Elementary School, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury. She claimed the incident was accidental, saying she was making breakfast when her husband, Arvind Singh, offered to help.
Upset about the unclean house, she said she turned with a knife in her hand, resulting in the injury. However, Arvind Singh stated that she “purposely attacked him with the knife” out of frustration over cleaning duties. Authorities confirmed that the assault did not occur on school property.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after 10:49 a.m. on October 12, and Arvind Singh was taken to the hospital with a serious neck injury.
Chandraprabha Singh was initially denied bond by a magistrate but later had it set at $10,000 during a court appearance on October 13, where she was also assigned a public defender. She was released under conditions including wearing an electronic monitoring device and having no contact with her husband.
