An Indian-origin doctor in the United States has been ordered to pay a massive fine of $14 million (approximately ₹120 crore) to settle allegations of medical malpractice and overbilling. Dr. Jitesh Patel, based in Atlanta, was accused of performing unnecessary medical procedures and billing government healthcare programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE for excessive and unneeded treatments.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the doctor allegedly conducted unwarranted procedures, including implanting devices and ordering excessive tests to claim higher reimbursements. As part of the settlement, Dr. Patel and his Advanced Urology Centre have agreed to pay the penalty. The case has raised concerns over unethical medical practices and strict enforcement actions in the U.S. healthcare system.
