Serious concerns are being raised over the health condition of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently serving a prison sentence in multiple cases. It has been revealed that Khan, incarcerated in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, has lost 85% of the vision in his right eye. Responding to this, the Pakistan Supreme Court has issued orders for an immediate medical examination. Barrister Salman Safdar, the court-appointed Amicus Curiae, submitted a report after meeting Khan in jail.
The report states that Khan himself informed the lawyer that his right eye vision is now limited to just 15%. Khan explained that while his vision was normal until a few months ago, it began to blur recently, and despite informing jail authorities, his concerns were reportedly ignored. Medical diagnosis indicates the vision loss is due to 'Right Central Retinal Vein Occlusion' (a blockage in the blood vessel). Allegations have surfaced that the condition worsened because timely treatment was not provided, as his vision was reportedly normal until October 2025.
The report also highlighted that nearly two and a half years of solitary confinement has taken a severe toll on his health. A bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi reviewed the report and issued key directives. The court ordered the formation of a medical board comprising specialists to conduct a full examination by February 16. Additionally, the court directed authorities to allow Khan to consult his personal physician and speak with his sons over the phone. This development has triggered a political storm in Pakistan, while his supporters continue to pray for his speedy recovery.
