External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that India would have faced a severe economic crisis, even a situation of bankruptcy, if not for the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Iran conflict related global tensions. He stated that the Modi government has significantly reduced the potential economic impact on India amid the ongoing instability in the Gulf region.
Jaishankar also noted that India’s relations with Gulf countries have strengthened considerably in recent years. He said the war like situation has affected air travel and global supply chains, but the government is prioritizing the safety and welfare of Indian citizens. He added that India is working closely with Gulf nations to restore normalcy as soon as possible.
