The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) has revitalised Nallacheruvu Lake in Kukatpally, with only minor finishing works remaining before it is officially opened to the public. Even ahead of its formal inauguration, the lake has emerged as a popular destination, drawing visitors from nearby localities within a five-kilometre radius.
Children, youth, women, and senior citizens are visiting the lake in large numbers, using the premises for walking, shuttle play, and other recreational activities. Although HYDRA faced criticism during its demolition drive in September 2024 to clear illegal encroachments, the successful transformation of Nallacheruvu into a clean and accessible public space has won widespread public appreciation. Residents are now hailing the initiative as a significant step toward environmental conservation and sustainable urban development.
