

Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted a two-day special drive against drunken driving on January 9 and 10, 2026, to strengthen road safety across the city. During the drive, a total of 404 drivers were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Among those caught, 349 were two-wheeler riders, 24 were three-wheeler drivers, and 31 were driving four-wheelers and other vehicles.
According to police data, blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels varied among the offenders. Seventy-seven cases were recorded with BAC levels between 30–50 mg, 151 cases between 51–100 mg, 87 cases between 101–150 mg, 45 cases between 151–200 mg, 23 cases between 201–250 mg, nine cases between 251–300 mg, and 12 cases registered BAC levels above 300 mg.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards drunken driving and stated that such special enforcement drives will continue in the coming days. Commuters have been urged to cooperate with traffic police and strictly follow road safety rules in the interest of public safety.
The Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Hyderabad, requested print, electronic, and FM media to give wide publicity to the drive to create greater public awareness.
