The State Taxi and Auto Union has announced the cancellation of the proposed auto strike scheduled for Tuesday in Telangana. Union state secretary Pentayya Goud stated that the government must immediately fulfill its election promise of providing a ₹12,000 incentive to auto drivers, including pending interest.
He also said that the union would soon launch a protest demanding a ban on bike taxis in Hyderabad and other major cities, citing severe impact on the livelihood of auto drivers.
The union leaders criticized the Mahalakshmi free bus travel scheme for women, claiming that it has significantly affected auto drivers’ income. They warned that if the Congress-led state government fails to address their concerns, it would face strong consequences in the upcoming municipal elections.
While the strike has been withdrawn for now, the union made it clear that stronger agitations would follow if their demands remain unresolved.
