Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Nara Lokesh made a key announcement regarding the Amma Vandanam scheme while responding to questions in the state legislative council. He stated that financial assistance worth ₹8,454 crore has been provided to 67,01,653 students across the state under the scheme. According to the data available in Unified District Information System for Education, there are 79,51,903 students enrolled from Class 1 to Class 12 in Andhra Pradesh.
The minister clarified that the government aims to provide assistance to all eligible beneficiaries and claimed that around 84.27 percent of eligible students have already received support under the Amma Vandanam scheme. He also criticized the opposition for spreading incorrect figures and compared the current coverage with the previous administration, stating that earlier only around 52 percent of students received assistance. Lokesh added that the government is ready to review cases where eligible beneficiaries have not yet received support and also assured that sanitation workers will be included under the scheme.
