Amaravati's Legal Process to Become Andhra Pradesh's Capital Begins

The Central Government has initiated steps to amend Section 5(2) of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, to officially designate Amaravati as the state's sole capital. This fulfills a long-standing demand of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Process Overview:

• The Central Law Ministry has already approved the amendment proposal.
• Next, the bill will be presented to the Union Cabinet for approval.
• Following Cabinet clearance, it will be introduced in Parliament for debate and passage.
• Once approved by Parliament, a Gazette notification will be issued, making Amaravati's status legally binding.

This development, reported in early December 2025, is expected to accelerate infrastructure work and reassure farmers who contributed land under the Land Pooling Scheme.
