Several alleged irregularities from the previous government’s tenure at Tirumala are gradually coming to light. After controversies related to adulterated ghee, theft allegations in the hundi, and irregularities in silk procurement, fresh accusations have emerged regarding corruption in gold plating works at temples.
During the gold plating of the Vimana Gopuram at the Varahaswamy Temple, officials reportedly detected discrepancies in gold usage. Vigilance investigations revealed that excess gold, unaccounted for in official records, was found during inspections of purification materials. Subsequent tests confirmed the presence of gold in chemical substances, raising serious concerns.
Phone records reviewed during the investigation allegedly indicated coordination between individuals involved in the work. Although the issue surfaced in 2022, it is alleged that the matter was kept away from public scrutiny at that time.
Fresh complaints have now surfaced regarding similar works at the Govindarajaswamy Temple in Tirupati. While earlier investigations had ruled out theft, new representations have prompted authorities to consider reopening the inquiry.
Political leaders have demanded accountability, alleging procedural violations and damage to temple structures. These developments have once again raised questions about transparency and governance in temple administration.
