TTD has shared good news for devotees visiting Tirumala. A new program called “Akshara Govindam” will soon begin at the Sri Vakulamatha Temple near Peruru, close to Tirupati. This initiative will allow parents to perform Aksharabhyasam for their children, similar to the tradition followed at the famous Basara Gnana Saraswati Temple in Telangana. Through this program, devotees can start their children’s education with the blessings of Vakulamatha. Children between three and five years of age can take part in this ceremony.
The project was prepared by the Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishad following a request from Chandragiri MLA Pulivarthi Nani. Since the main Vakulamatha temple is located on a small hill, TTD has decided to arrange the program at an open space near the temple’s eastern side, close to the Pushkarini. A special permanent mandapam will be constructed at this location to conduct the ceremony comfortably for devotees.
In this mandapam, idols of Lord Venkateswara, Goddess Padmavati and Goddess Saraswati will be installed. The Aksharabhyasam ceremony will be performed here according to traditional rituals. After the ceremony, children will receive a special “Akshara Govindam” kit containing seven items, including a writing slate, chalk box, sacred rice from the temple, kumkum, pictures of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Saraswati and Lord Venkateswara, sacred wrist bands and patika bellam prasadam. Initially, the program will start as a pilot project with 300 kits. TTD will soon clarify whether the kits will be given free or with a small fee.
