Google is set to lay the foundation for its massive $15 billion AI data center campus in Visakhapatnam on April 28, marking one of the largest foreign investments in India’s digital infrastructure. The ceremony will be led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. This ambitious initiative reflects a long-term commitment to India’s rapidly growing AI and cloud computing market, positioning Vizag as a global technology hub.
The project will develop a large-scale network of data centers spread across multiple locations, with projected capacity ranging between 1 and 5 gigawatts in future phases. It is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, particularly in AI engineering, cybersecurity, and data operations. Additionally, the development will significantly enhance power infrastructure, fiber connectivity, and subsea network capabilities, delivering widespread benefits to India’s digital economy.
Spanning several hundred acres, the campus will feature advanced cooling technologies, high-capacity servers, and interconnected systems designed for large-scale AI workloads and cloud computing. Once completed, it is expected to become one of Asia’s largest data center operations. With phased construction beginning after the foundation ceremony, initial operations are anticipated later this decade, attracting startups, global tech firms, and semiconductor players while strengthening India’s role in the global AI supply chain.
