A 58-foot tall bronze statue of freedom fighter Potti Sreeramulu was unveiled in Amaravati’s Shakamuru Park by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The statue was inaugurated as part of the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Potti Sreeramulu. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Minister Nara Lokesh, BJP Andhra Pradesh president P. V. N. Madhav, along with several ministers and public representatives who paid tribute to the leader.
The 58-foot statue was built to honor Sreeramulu’s 58-day hunger strike. Named “Amarajeevi – Statue of Sacrifice”, the bronze statue stands in Shakamuru Park across 6.80 acres of land. The first phase of the project was completed in a record time of just six months.
Around 26 tons of bronze and 42 tons of iron structure were used to build this statue. In the second phase, the government plans to construct a museum, an auditorium and skill development centers at the same location. This statue has become the first major sculpture landmark in Amaravati.
