Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced a record allocation of ₹5,454 crore for the development of railway projects in Telangana for the financial year 2026–27. He shared the key highlights of the railway budget for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh during a virtual media interaction held on February 2, 2026, from New Delhi. Senior officials, including South Central Railway General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, attended the briefing in Secunderabad.
The minister recalled that between 2009 and 2014, the average annual railway allocation for the undivided Andhra Pradesh was only ₹886 crore. He stated that the present allocation for Telangana is nearly six times higher than that period. Railway infrastructure projects worth ₹47,984 crore are currently in progress across the state, and the entire railway network in Telangana has now been fully electrified.
Ashwini Vaishnaw also announced seven high-speed rail corridors across the country, of which three will originate or terminate in Hyderabad. These corridors are expected to significantly reduce travel time between Hyderabad and Bengaluru, Chennai, and Pune. He said the initiatives will strengthen connectivity, improve passenger convenience, and support Telangana’s growth as an emerging industrial and economic hub.
