The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 32 institutions across the country as fake universities. It clarified that degrees issued by these institutions do not have legal recognition. The UGC warned that certificates obtained from such institutions will not be valid for employment or higher education. Students and parents have been advised to verify the official recognition status of institutions before seeking admission.
According to the list, Delhi accounts for the highest number with 12 such institutions, followed by four in Uttar Pradesh. In Andhra Pradesh, two institutions Christ New Testament in Guntur and Bible Open University in Visakhapatnam have been included in the list.
The UGC also noted the presence of fake universities in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Kerala. It reiterated that enrolling in unrecognized institutions could lead to serious academic and career complications.
