‘Toxic’.. I Didn’t Make the Script I Had Originally Planned - Director Geetu Mohandas

Kannada superstar Yash’s upcoming action drama ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ has generated significant interest, particularly because acclaimed filmmaker Geetu Mohandas is at the helm. Geetu began her career as a child actor before establishing herself as an award-winning filmmaker with independent cinema. While her earlier directorial works explored human relationships, identity, emotions and displacement, ‘Toxic’ takes her into a completely different territory featuring a period setting, gangster elements and large-scale action. Amid mixed reactions from audiences, with some describing the film as excessively violent, an old video of Geetu has gone viral. In the clip, she says that what she wrote, shot and edited eventually became something different, adding that she was happy with the final film. However, the video appears to be old and is reportedly not related to ‘Toxic’.

Geetu Mohandas made her screen debut as a child artist in 1986 with Onnu Muthal Poojyam Vare alongside Mohanlal and won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for her debut. She later returned as a lead actress and won the Kerala State Best Actress Award for Aakale. In 2009, she began her directorial journey with the short film Kelkkunnundo?, which earned national and international recognition. Her acclaimed films Liar’s Dice and Moothon became major milestones, with Liar’s Dice winning two National Film Awards and being selected as India’s official entry for the 87th Academy Awards. Her husband, acclaimed cinematographer Rajeev Ravi, is the cinematographer for ‘Toxic’.
