Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar recently spoke about his simple lifestyle during an interview at the India Today Roundtable. He said he pays only ₹50 for a haircut in Delhi and prefers visiting a regular public barber shop instead of having a barber come to his home. He cited this as an example of his preference for a modest and uncomplicated lifestyle.
However, his remarks drew criticism from political opponents. They pointed to Shivakumar’s election affidavit, in which he declared personal assets worth more than ₹1,400 crore. The BJP mocked his comments on social media, sharing photographs showing him with luxury items such as a Rolex watch and a Louis Vuitton scarf. The party questioned the contrast between his stated simple lifestyle and his declared wealth.
