Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has once again grabbed attention with his comments on Artificial Intelligence and the future of medicine. He said AI could significantly reduce the role of doctors by accurately diagnosing diseases, while robotic systems may perform surgeries with greater precision. According to him, doctors may eventually become facilitators rather than primary decision-makers.
Questioning the relevance of the current education system, Varma asked why students continue to prepare for NEET and spend years in medical colleges if AI is expected to handle many medical responsibilities in the future. He also remarked that traditional education has become outdated in the AI era and needs a complete transformation. His comments have triggered widespread debate, with some calling them futuristic and others arguing that they underestimate the importance of doctors and medical education.
