Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh triggered a major controversy at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. While his heartfelt respect toward Superstar Rajinikanth earned appreciation, his on-stage imitation of Rishab Shetty’s iconic divine scream from Kantara upset the Kannada audience, who felt it was disrespectful.
The situation escalated further when Ranveer Singh referred to Guliga Daiva’s sister, Chavundi, as a “female ghost.” In reality, Chavundi is worshipped as a sacred guardian deity who protects temple land and its people. His inaccurate remark, made without understanding the cultural and divine significance, angered devotees and fans alike. Even Rishab Shetty appeared visibly uncomfortable with Ranveer’s act on stage.
Kannada audiences are now demanding a public apology from Ranveer Singh, accusing him of disrespecting their traditions. Some even labeled his behavior as blasphemous and warned of boycotting his upcoming film Durandhar, which is scheduled for release in the first week of December.
After the release of Kantara: Chapter 1, many fans began recreating Daiva performances inside theatres out of admiration. However, the makers quickly issued an advisory requesting fans not to imitate these sacred acts, as they represent deep cultural beliefs and powerful emotions.
