Producer Elred Kumar is said to have taken a major risk with the ₹45-crore project ‘Mandaadi’, according to reports doing the rounds in Kollywood. Netflix had reportedly initially offered ₹15 crore as an outright deal for the film. However, considering the production budget, the producer is said to have demanded ₹25 crore. Netflix reportedly rejected the proposal and instead came up with a high-stakes, performance-based deal linked to the film’s theatrical box-office performance.
Under the reported arrangement, Netflix would pay a significantly higher amount if the film crossed specified theatrical collection milestones between ₹50 crore and ₹80 crore. Confident about his visual spectacle, Elred Kumar is said to have accepted the challenge. With ‘Mandaadi’ reportedly exceeding expectations at the box office, industry buzz suggests that the film could now fetch around ₹40 crore from Netflix. Along with this, a theatrical share of around ₹5 crore could help recover the remaining production cost and potentially turn the project into a profitable venture.
