Actress Madhoo has praised Rashmika Mandanna for confidently responding to criticism of her Hindi accent and embracing her South Indian identity. Madhoo said she admired the way Rashmika handled the comments with dignity and self-confidence. During her appearance on the talk show Koffee with Karan, Rashmika addressed criticism of her Hindi accent, questioning why it should be a problem when she comes from South India. Her response resonated with Madhoo, who said she appreciated Rashmika’s willingness to stand up for her linguistic identity.
Recalling her own early years in Hindi cinema, Madhoo said she had worried about facing criticism because she was a South Indian actress. She worked hard to learn Hindi, even hiring an Urdu tutor, and tried to prevent her accent from showing. Madhoo added that she no longer worries as much about her accent or occasional language mistakes, but it took her more than three decades to reach that level of confidence. She encouraged Rashmika to continue embracing her identity. Veteran lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar has also reportedly supported Rashmika, pointing out that people should reflect on their own language skills before criticising how others speak.
