

Puvvula Suribabu, a legendary figure in Telugu theatre and cinema, is remembered for his immense contribution to art and culture. Born on February 22, 1915, in Bommaluru, Krishna district, he entered the stage at a very young age and later became a celebrated actor, singer, and playwright. His performances in dramas and films left a lasting impact on audiences.
Suribabu, along with his wife Rajeshwari, founded multiple theatre companies and successfully staged several hit plays. Their production “Tarashashankam” gained immense popularity and was performed hundreds of times across the Telugu states. The play was also released as gramophone records, highlighting its cultural significance. The couple dedicated their lives to preserving and promoting theatre arts.
In cinema, Suribabu acted in several classic films including “Malapilla”, “Raitubidda”, and “Seeta Kalyanam”. He also contributed to music direction and guided many artists in classical singing techniques. Even while working in films, he remained deeply committed to theatre until his last days. He passed away in 1968, and his wife Rajeshwari in 1987, leaving behind a rich artistic legacy.
