Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has announced a major expansion of the state’s comprehensive health insurance scheme, increasing the annual coverage available to each family from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh. He said the government’s objective is to ensure access to quality healthcare for everyone, irrespective of their income or place of residence. The enhanced insurance coverage is aimed at providing greater financial protection to families facing major medical expenses.
Vijay also announced an increase in the milk procurement price paid by state-run Aavin, raising it from ₹38 to ₹41 per litre. He said the move would benefit more than 3.16 lakh milk producers across Tamil Nadu and was taken despite the state’s financial challenges to protect their livelihoods. He also criticised the previous DMK government over the issue. In another decision, Vijay said MLAs would be provided with government-funded vehicles and a special monthly allowance of ₹75,000 to cover vehicle maintenance, fuel and driver salaries.
