Ilaiyaraaja’s name is once again making headlines during the Oscar season. His Marathi film ‘Gondhal’ has already been selected as India’s official entry for the 2027 Academy Awards. Now, another film featuring his music, ‘Anthony’, has been submitted for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category from Sri Lanka. The Tamil film, made in Sri Lanka, has not yet been selected as the country’s official Oscar entry and must first clear the national selection process. The film’s team said ‘Anthony’ was submitted to the Sri Lanka National Oscars Selection Committee through the National Film Corporation.
Eligible Sri Lankan films submitted for Oscar consideration will be evaluated by a nine-member National Oscars Selection Committee, which will select one film to represent the country at the Academy Awards. ‘Anthony’ is among the films competing for the selection. According to the schedule announced by the Sri Lanka National Film Corporation, the deadline for film submissions is 4 pm on September 21. The committee will then complete the selection process, with Sri Lanka’s official entry for the 2027 Oscars scheduled to be announced on September 28.
