The summer season is usually considered the best time for the film industry, with theaters expected to be full. However, the ongoing Indian Premier League matches have become a major obstacle. High-intensity games, especially on weekends, are keeping audiences glued to their screens at home, affecting theater footfall.
Even the currently successful film Dhurandhar 2 is facing this impact. While it continues to perform well on weekdays, collections over the recent weekends have been lower than expected. Reports suggest that the film may have lost around ₹10 to ₹15 crore due to the IPL effect. A noticeable drop in audience turnout, especially for evening shows, has been observed.
Recently released films like Rakasa and Biker received positive responses, but their box office performance has not matched expectations because of the IPL craze. Upcoming releases such as Decoyt and Love Insurance Company are also causing concern among producers. With IPL matches dominating evening slots, theater owners and filmmakers are now planning new strategies to attract audiences back to cinemas.
