Fatty liver disease is rising rapidly in India, with studies published on PubMed estimating that nearly 38–39% of adults are at risk. Research conducted across multiple Indian states highlights the growing concern, as the condition often shows no early symptoms but can progress to severe complications like liver cirrhosis if ignored. Doctors note that a large number of people are currently in the Grade-1 stage, where timely intervention through lifestyle changes can effectively control the condition.
Addressing a common misconception, experts clarify that skipping dinner does not cure fatty liver, as there is no scientific evidence supporting this claim. Instead, they recommend consuming smaller, balanced meals throughout the day and having dinner early to avoid overeating. Maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly for at least 150–300 minutes a week, reducing sugar intake, and including protein-rich foods in the diet are essential steps for managing and improving liver health.
