Reports in international media suggest that the United States Department of Defense has estimated it may take up to six months to clear sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Although a ceasefire between the United States and Iran is currently in place, uncertainty continues over the situation in the region. Iran is believed to have deployed several sea mines in the strait, and removing them completely to ensure safe navigation could be a time consuming process.
According to reports, some of these mines are equipped with GPS based systems, making their detection more difficult for U.S. forces. Iran reportedly began deploying these mines in March, potentially disrupting maritime movement for months. While the Pentagon had earlier denied similar claims, recent updates have raised concerns among U.S. lawmakers. There are growing fears that prolonged disruption could lead to higher fuel prices, with Brent crude oil already crossing 100 dollars per barrel.
