Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has expressed concern over India's employment scenario, calling the creation of sufficient jobs for the country's youth one of its biggest challenges. In a post on X, he said hiring has slowed even in the IT industry, traditionally one of the largest employment generators in the country.
According to Vembu, technology firms are now investing a significant portion of their resources in artificial intelligence (AI) and data centre infrastructure instead of expanding their workforce. While Indian IT companies have not carried out mass layoffs on the scale seen globally, he noted that the sector, including Zoho, has struggled to generate large numbers of new jobs over the past few years.
