The YSRCP has approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking a halt to the process for local body elections in the state. The party has argued that it is inappropriate to proceed with preparations for local elections while the voter-list revision process, or SIR, is still underway. It has sought directions to conduct the local elections only after the final electoral rolls are published and to suspend the process of issuing an election notification until then.
The YSRCP has also urged the High Court to issue appropriate directions to the State Election Commission regarding the election process. The party has reportedly maintained that holding elections after the final voter list is published would provide greater clarity and ensure that eligible voters are properly included. The court’s response to the petition is now being closely watched.
