UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has expressed serious concern over an incident involving a Russian warship in the English Channel. A British flagged civilian yacht was reportedly forced to change its course after a Russian naval vessel carried out warning actions, including firing signals, near UK territorial waters. The Prime Minister described the incident as reckless and deeply concerning.
According to Russia’s Defence Ministry, the British yacht came close to the warship Admiral Grigorovich, and repeated radio contact attempts were unsuccessful, leading to warning signals and firing of small arms. However, the British couple on board denied the claims, stating they were not dangerously close and changed direction after hearing a horn. The UK Defence Ministry also termed the incident concerning, while Prime Minister Starmer, speaking from France during the G7 summit, said the situation should not have happened and likely caused fear to those on board.
