The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has taken a significant step towards making international air travel more convenient by launching pilot trials of Digi Yatra services for international passengers at seven major airports across India. The trials are being conducted at airports in Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, along with three other locations. The initiative aims to simplify passenger identification and streamline airport entry procedures through digital verification.
Currently, Indian passport holders with e-passports travelling on Air India and IndiGo flights can access these services. The Digi Yatra system uses digital identity verification to make the passenger journey smoother and more efficient. The Centre plans to expand the service in phases, with nationwide implementation targeted for 2027.
