Tension prevailed at Vijayawada’s Gannavaram International Airport on Friday as airport oustees staged a protest demanding a resolution to their long-pending issues. The protesters alleged that police forcibly disrupted their peaceful demonstration. The situation reportedly escalated when the protesters insisted on getting an assurance from the local tahsildar regarding their demands. They alleged that police personnel forcibly moved the protesters into vehicles and took them away from the spot. Oustees and union leaders also alleged that police dragged agricultural workers’ union state secretary Venkateswarlu away during the protest.
The oustees demanded the immediate implementation of promises made to them earlier by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. They also sought an immediate inquiry into the police action and strict measures against officials responsible, as alleged by the protesters. The protesters urged the government to resolve their long-pending issues and honour the assurances given to them.
