Telangana High Court Issues Key Directions on BC Gurukul School Timings

The Telangana High Court has sought the State Government’s clarification on changes in working hours at BC Welfare residential schools and the assignment of non-teaching duties to teachers. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice Vakiti Ramakrishna Reddy heard a public interest litigation filed by M. Shiply on Tuesday. The petitioner sought the inclusion of residential schools in G.O. 16 issued in 2024 and the proceedings issued in June this year revising working hours.

Counsel for the petitioner submitted that the residential schools currently function from 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. and sought revised timings from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. The petitioner also requested that teachers not be assigned additional responsibilities such as supervised study hours, wardenship and hostel-in-charge duties. After hearing the submissions, the Bench sought the government’s response and adjourned the matter to September 30.
