Telangana Failed to Utilise Its Krishna Water Share - Harish Rao

Former Telangana minister and BRS leader T. Harish Rao has criticised the state government, alleging that Telangana has failed to utilise its share of Krishna river water effectively. Addressing a media conference at Telangana Bhavan, Rao claimed that Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy had told the Assembly that 84 TMC of water had already been drawn from Srisailam, while only around 8 TMC had been lifted to the Kalwakurthy project. He also alleged that only two of the five available motors at Kalwakurthy were being operated.

Rao further claimed that Krishna water utilisation by Telangana was lower in 2024-25, citing what he described as KRMB figures. According to his statement, Andhra Pradesh had utilised 718 TMC over the three-year period, compared with 216 TMC by Telangana. He accused the Congress government of failing to utilise available water and infrastructure and alleged that Andhra Pradesh was drawing water towards projects including Pothireddypadu and Veligonda. These remarks are political allegations by Rao, and the figures require verification against the latest official KRMB records.
