The salary hike of K. Krithivasan, CEO of Tata Consultancy Services, has triggered widespread discussion on social media after reports claimed his annual compensation increased by 6.3% in FY26 to nearly ₹28 crore. At the same time, many TCS engineers reportedly received an average salary hike of around 5%, which translates to only an additional ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 per month for several employees. The contrast has reignited debates around executive compensation and employee pay disparity in India’s corporate sector.
While companies often justify high executive salaries by citing leadership responsibilities, business expansion, and shareholder value creation, employees argue that their heavy workloads, long working hours, and rising living costs are not being adequately rewarded. The discussion has now evolved into a larger debate online over who contributes more significantly to a company’s success — leadership teams or the workforce driving daily operations.
