A Pakistani cleric’s remarks at a gathering in Bahawalnagar on August 14 have sparked controversy. According to reports, he claimed that 10,000 militants had been sent to Kashmir. He reportedly said that the chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) had sent the militants to the region. The remarks have triggered fresh discussions over Pakistan based militant activities and terrorism in Kashmir.
Lashkar-e-Taiba is already designated as a terrorist organisation by the United States, while its chief also faces cases in India. The Pakistani cleric’s remarks have once again brought attention to allegations of cross-border militancy and the activities of Pakistan based extremist groups.
