Maharashtra’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has reportedly arrested a suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) operative in Mumbai. The suspect, Mohammed Hasan Abu Sarmad Akhtar, who works as a bike rider for a cab-booking service, allegedly circulated extremist content online and attempted to fuel religious tensions, according to intelligence inputs cited by officials. Following an investigation, ATS personnel reportedly arrested him near Mahim Metro Station in Mumbai. Preliminary findings are said to indicate that he had links with handlers associated with the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed and Pakistani intelligence operatives.
According to officials, the suspect allegedly operated Telegram groups and shared speeches by Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar. Investigators also reportedly found that he had posted a report concerning a security lapse during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mumbai on various applications. Authorities said anti-national content was found on his mobile phone. The ATS is continuing its investigation to identify other individuals who may have been in contact with the suspect. The allegations remain subject to investigation and official confirmation.
