Germany’s FIFA World Cup preparations received an unexpected interruption after a venomous snake was reportedly spotted at the team’s training camp in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Team staff identified the reptile hiding beneath the grass near the camp facilities, raising concerns among players and officials. Reports also suggested that players from Switzerland and Norway had encountered snakes in the area, adding to safety concerns during the tournament.
Reacting to the incident, Germany captain Joshua Kimmich said that players in Germany usually worry about tactics, injuries, and upcoming opponents, but in North Carolina they also have to think about what might be hiding in the grass. According to reports, the snake was believed to be a copperhead, a venomous species commonly found in the region. FIFA officials confirmed that no players or staff members were harmed during the incident.
