The Telangana High Court is set to deliver its verdict on petitions seeking the disqualification of Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender over his alleged defection. Nagender was elected as an MLA from Khairatabad on a BRS ticket and later joined the Congress. He also contested the 2024 Secunderabad Lok Sabha election as a Congress candidate. BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy and BJP Legislature Party leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy approached the High Court seeking his disqualification.
The petitions challenged Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar’s decision rejecting the disqualification pleas against Nagender. After hearing arguments from both sides, the High Court reserved its judgment on August 21. The verdict, initially expected on September 16, was deferred to September 18. The petitioners argued that Nagender’s decision to contest the Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket and campaign for the party amounted to voluntarily giving up his BRS membership.
