Practice Patience: DK Shivakumar’s Message to Dissatisfied Leaders

Nearly two months after taking oath as Karnataka Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar has expanded his cabinet to full strength. After weeks of consultations in Delhi along with former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the final list of ministers was released on Monday by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal. Out of 20 available positions, 19 ministers were inducted. However, the absence of women in the cabinet has triggered political debate and criticism.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at Lok Bhavan, where Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath to the new ministers. Despite 20 names being announced initially, S.S. Mallikarjun took oath in place of Mankal Vaidya, while the only woman in the list, Gayathri Shanthegowda, did not take oath. With this expansion, the total cabinet strength has reached 33, including the Chief Minister. The exclusion of nearly 20 senior leaders has led to discontent, with some resignations and warnings from others. Shivakumar urged patience, stating that perseverance can lead to opportunities.
