New Voter Registration Rules to Become Stricter Under SIR 2026

The Election Commission is preparing to tighten the process for enrolling new voters under the SIR 2026 draft electoral roll revision. Under the proposed rules, applicants must submit the details of their own name or that of a close relative listed in the previous electoral roll. The required information includes the constituency name, part number, and serial number of the existing voter entry.

In addition, every new voter application submitted through Form 6 must be accompanied by a self-declaration. Officials believe these measures will improve the accuracy of electoral rolls and reduce irregular registrations. Sources indicate that the stricter verification process may continue even after the SIR 2026 revision is completed.
