A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, drawing close attention from weather experts. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Global Forecast System (GFS), and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), the system is expected to move in a west-northwest direction and may gradually intensify over the coming days. Forecast models indicate that by July 5, the system could strengthen into a deep depression or cyclonic circulation. However, meteorologists say it is still too early to determine its exact track, intensity, or potential landfall location.
Weather experts estimate that the probability of the system intensifying into a cyclonic storm currently stands at around 30 percent. Even if it does not develop into a cyclone, the associated rainfall is expected to benefit Andhra Pradesh during the ongoing Kharif cultivation season. The expected showers in the first week of July are likely to provide relief to farmers affected by below-normal rainfall in June and help improve groundwater levels in water-scarce regions.
