KKR Acquires Medicover Hospitals India

US-based private equity giant KKR has signed an agreement to acquire Medicover Hospitals India (MHI) for €1.2 billion (approximately ₹13,200 crore), making it the largest acquisition in India's healthcare sector to date. Headquartered in Hyderabad, Medicover Hospitals India operates a network of 24 hospitals across southern and western India. Before the transaction, Sweden-based Medicover AB held a 66.1% stake in the company, while the remaining 33.9% was owned by minority shareholders.

Under the agreement, Medicover AB will receive €740 million (around ₹8,140 crore), with the remaining amount going to minority shareholders. The company plans to use the proceeds to expand its hospital operations in Poland, Romania, and Germany. Medicover AB CEO John Stubbington said the company decided to exit its Indian business after evaluating multiple strategic opportunities and expressed confidence that KKR's leadership would drive the next phase of growth for the healthcare business in India.
