Key Decisions by the Union Cabinet

The Union Cabinet has approved a key change in the wage ceiling for mandatory Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) coverage, raising it from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 per month. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the decision. The government said the revised ceiling is expected to bring more than 51 lakh additional employees under mandatory EPF coverage.

The existing Rs 15,000 wage ceiling has been in place since 2014. Raising it to Rs 25,000 is expected to expand access to social security benefits such as provident fund and pension coverage for more employees. Further details, including the effective date and implementation process, are expected to be announced by the concerned authorities.
