The central government has reduced the number of subsidized LPG cylinders provided under the Ujjwala scheme. While earlier beneficiaries received subsidies on up to 12 cylinders annually, it has now been restricted to just four cylinders per year. This move is likely to increase the financial burden on poor and middle-class households.
Officials stated that this decision is part of changes introduced in the Ujjwala scheme launched in 2016. The subsidy was earlier reduced from 12 to 9 cylinders and has now been further limited to four. The new policy is expected to have a significant impact on beneficiaries.
