Key Changes in KBR Park Traffic Plan

Writer: Pooja06:29 AM, 18 September 2026
Key Changes in KBR Park Traffic Plan

The success of the one way traffic system implemented around KBR Park has prompted officials to reconsider the earlier plan to construct multiple flyovers and underpasses. Traffic congestion at signal junctions had earlier forced motorists to wait for several minutes, while movement remained slow even after signals turned green. With traffic now moving more smoothly under the one way system, officials are examining whether all the previously proposed projects are still necessary, given their high construction and land acquisition costs.

As an alternative, officials are considering a six-lane elevated corridor connecting Jubilee Hills Road No. 36, beyond the Check Post, with Panjagutta’s Nagarjuna Circle. The proposed corridor is intended to allow vehicles travelling between Panjagutta, Khairatabad, Secunderabad and the IT corridor to move without getting caught at major signals. The existing KBR Park one-way system is expected to continue unchanged for vehicles travelling from Panjagutta towards the ORR. Such vehicles can proceed towards KBR Park and take the existing route via Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital, Maharaja Agrasen Junction and Road No. 45.

Under the H-City project, bridges and underpasses worth ₹1,090 crore had earlier been proposed around KBR Park. Officials are now considering replacing them with a single elevated corridor that could reduce both land acquisition and construction costs. The original plan required acquisition of 237 properties, with compensation estimated at ₹1,048 crore. The revised proposal involves a six-lane elevated corridor of about four kilometres between Panjagutta and the Check Post, with ramps at key locations. Work on the underpass at Maharaja Agrasen Junction has already been stopped, and a retaining wall is expected to be constructed to restore the road. The government is yet to provide final clarity on the revised corridor design.
