Israel has achieved another milestone in agriculture by transforming the Negev desert into a globally recognised wine-producing region. Large-scale grape cultivation and wine production in the arid region have earned Negev a place in the prestigious list of protected international wine regions alongside Champagne, Chianti and Napa Valley.
The achievement was made possible through the efforts of local farmers, winemakers and the Merage Foundation with support from the Israeli government. Despite facing several challenges in desert farming, the region now produces over one million wine bottles annually through more than 60 wineries, helping boost wine tourism and global recognition for Israel’s agricultural innovation.
